About

The Location

Congo campground is a popular camping area for families – with room for kids to play and ride, there’s a choice of two beaches to swim, surf and walk, and opportunities to go fishing along the river. There’s plenty to keep you amused for a weekend getaway or a longer camping trip.

If you’re interested in finding out a bit more about the history of the area, you could walk the Bingi Dreaming track that starts from the campground. It’s a 14km walk, ending at Tuross Head, however you can break the walk up into shorter sections if you’re walking with children. If you’re there in spring you’ll be treated to some pretty wildflower displays and the views are magnificent all year round.

The campground isn’t far from Moruya, so you can pick up some supplies before heading out with your caravan, camper trailer or family tent to set up your site.

Activities: walking, road cycling, paddling, sailing and boating, swimming, fishing, surfing, birdwatching, picnicking, playing and socialising

Getting there: From Moruya, take South Head Road and turn right into Congo Road. Follow Congo Road all the way to the campsite.

Facilities: amenities block, boat ramp, lookout, flush toilets, trackhead/access point

  • Generators may only be used between the hours of 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm

Great spot for a few days or a few weeks. There's plenty to see and do here with the surf beach on the right of the lookout and the swimming beach on the left. If your not fully self contained bring a solar bag for your showers in the well maintained amenity block. Weekends can get pretty busy so get there during the week and get there early for million$ views.

A National Park campground suitable for tents caravans motorhomes & big rigs. Operates on a first come basis. Grassy campsites are all mostly level you can choose your own patch of ground. Located right on the beach with access to a second beach via a short bush walk. A tidal lagoon right next to the campground is particularly suitable for young families with shallow water on a clean sandy bottom. Flushing toilets are available in what appears to be new amenities. Shower cubicles are present but there are no showers...bring your own hot water shower if not self contained. There is one beachfront cold water shower & a tap with water but NOT suitable for drinking. There is NO POTABLE WATER available here. There are no powered sites. The amenities are clean & well maintained. Rubbish bins are available & were emptied while we were there. Caretaker is friendly & visits the campground frequently to collect fees etc. Television reception & mobile phone coverage is good. Fee

Rates per night are $11.50 pp per night Great surf beach to the right and swimming on the left. You can cross the river to go to the beach on the left its only knee deep in some places or just sit in the river water to cool off Highly recommend this place no limit to number of days you can stay.

Picturesque camp spot right on wetlands and surf fishing beach, protected from south easterlies, clear open spaces, visiting kangaroos. Expertly and efficiently run by Kerry the caretaker who visits several times a day to collect fees and share local knowledge. Would love to stay longer. No potable water at moment, no power, generators between set hours, clean flush toilets, large shower room, byo hot water.
