About

The Location

The Homestead borders Elsey National Park and is situated between two rivers,  the Waterhouse river and the Little Roper river which abound with Barramundi and other fish species. Freshwater crocodiles can be seen basking on the banks of the Waterhouse. Mataranka Homestead is also the home of Maddie and our other orphan wallabies which have been hand raised at the homestead.

The movie "We of the Never Never" was filmed here, and the replica of the original homestead is still part of the attractions here.

The Homestead is open all year round and during the high season (Easter weekend -Late August) we have live entertainment six nights a week . Meals are available seven days a week for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and we also have a large Reception area that provides essential items, plus a large range of souvenirs and fishing gear. Sit down and enjoy a cold beer at Malukas Bar, and have a yarn with some of the locals.

Enjoy a swim in the beautiful Rainbow Springs Thermal Pool which is situated within the Homestead's

We have 10 x fully self contained cabins and 23 motel rooms.

We have close to 100 powered sites and unlimited unpowered sites for your enjoyment.  All are within walking distance to the Thermal Pool.

As we are surrounded by National Park, pets are permitted with prior arrangement with management in Camp Area One only. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

This park is adjacent to the old Elsey Station made famous by the book 'We of the Never Never' and the later film. If you missed the film or want to see it again it is shown every day in the spacious airy bar. The park climbs the side of a hill with good size grassed camping sites amongst trees and bushes. The facilities are in good order and clean and the whole area is well maintained. Water carts continually spray the sandy roadways to keep down the dust. Wallabies can be seen in the early morning and at dusk each day. There is free entertainment each night including an expert whip cracker. Each morning we woke to hear campers cracking their own new whips.

Very warm welcoming. Plenty of shade. Springs not to hot, which I loved. Beer cheap and served with a smile!!! Food on point.

Excellent tourist park with many comfortable sites, mostly landscaped and reasonable rates. Full time shop, restaurant, bar and entertainment a bonus, although a decent coffee needs a trip into town. No grass and the amenities are basic, but the wonderful free thermal pool is the major reason you visit here, so all else is forgiven! Highly recommend.

This is a very large caravan park with all the facilities you need. Friendly managers and staff. The restaurant food is great and the entertainment is an added bonus. The springs are well set out and is located in an oasis which is a great spot to relax in after a long drive. Definately recommend staying here.
