The Location

The ultimate self-drive wilderness adventure on a genuine Australian outback cattle station.

On the coastal waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria, a getaway to Seven Emu Station holds something unique for everyone from tourists, campers, environmentalists, birdwatchers, fishermen and four-wheel-drive explorers.

Your self-drive holiday adventure can include camping, boating, fishing, nature-watching, and Aboriginal culture and heritage as a guest of the Shadforth family on this real-deal cattle station in the outback of the Northern Territory.

Whether you’re a nature lover, birdwatcher or just as a peaceful getaway, a stay in the stockmen’s camp sites overlooking the stunning Robinson River will be something you’ll never forget.

These authentic rustic camps are made by stockmen as they have for most of their lives. With bough sheds for shelter, open fires and a “donkey” to heat your shower, your camp will be the real deal.

Watch the bull sharks hunting schools of salmon … crocodiles swimming up and down on the hunt … and as the toilets are situated so high on the cliff, watch the eagles and jabirus flying below you! Seek out the secretive Purple-crowned Fairy Wrens, Azure Kingfishers and wading birds.

Camp sites are spread out to assure your privacy. A short drive down to the banks of the Robinson River or Shark Creek will put you at a prime Barramundi fishing hot spot or gives nature lovers access to some of Australia’s most untouched waters. Launch your boat into the river to access the coast and be surrounded by multitudes of birds and abundant marine life. Turtles and dugongs can be seen frequently.

Beautiful location but make SURE you see someone at the office before going to the campsite. We emailed beforehand informing the date and time we would be arriving. There was no one at the office when we arrived so we filled out all the forms and followed the supplied mud map to the campsite. Frank got angry and abusive when he saw us because he did not know who we were even though we had signed in properly. I could understand why he was concerned but not his reaction. Good on him for trying to help struggling kids but that behaviour would not be a good example. PS: the lady whom we met in the office later was very helpful.
