About

The Location

Moreton Telegraph Station is located on the Wenlock River in the centre of Cape York Peninsula just 293 kilometres from Cape York ('The Tip'), the Australian mainland's most northerly point.

The spacious and shady 6 hectare (15 acre) clearing in natural bushland provides ample space for adventurous travellers looking for a tranquil camping spot and hot shower after a hard day's drive. If the urge to sleep in a real bed cannot be resisted, our safari tent options may interest you.

The Wenlock River flows all year, although the levels can vary dramatically between the 'wet' season and the 'dry' season. Keen fisherfolk can try their luck at catching barramundi, black bream or saratoga but be aware that Estuarine crocodiles may inhabit this river system.

Camping

Lots of space and plenty of shady campsites are available throughout the well-kept grounds. Fireplaces are established in the most popular campsites (firewood is not supplied - please collect your firewood outside the property prior to arrival).

Three 'unisex' shower/toilet facilities are available for use by campers. Power is supplied by a generator which runs from 7:00am till 9:30pm. This provides lighting and boosts water pressure for showers and toilets.

Safari Tents

Situated away from the main camping area are our Safari Tents. These "Cabents" are in a secluded woodland setting that is close to the beautiful Wenlock River.

Each Cabent comes with bed linen, towels and face washer that provides you with that little bit of luxury on your journey through the Cape.

Provided in this area is a modern ablutions block with toilets and hot showers.

There is an undercover dining area. Self-cater facilities, subject to availability. Our in house chef can cater for small or large groups (bookings essential). - Show beside this the existing picture of the undercover dining area.

Cabins

Ensuited and air conditioned, nestled into the surrounding landscape and right along side the magnificent Wenlock River. Linen & towels are provided for your conveniences.

Meals are served on the Linesman Deck where you can meet other guests and share your travel experiences or swap 4WD and fishing yarns.

Nice green campgrounds that are regularly watered. Powered sites available. The staff are superb friendly and helpful and love to chat. Would definitely recommend over the other nearby options for camping.
