Located 600km north of Adelaide and 130km east of Leigh Creek, and in the ruggedly spectacular northern Flinders Ranges, this 610sq km multi award-winning Wilderness Sanctuary, operated by the Sprigg family, contains some of Australia's most spectacular mountain views and offers numerous Advanced Ecotourism accredited guided tours.
Arkaroola features rugged mountains, towering granite peaks, magnificent gorges and mysterious waterholes, the home to over 160 species of birds and the shy and endangered Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby.
Arkaroola is a mecca for bushwalkers and four wheel drivers. The spectacular Advanced Ecotourism accredited rugged 4WD Ridgetop Tour is world famous; journey to the depths of ancient seabeds and across razor-back ridges and peaks of the Flinders Ranges most rugged mountains to the magnificent climax at Sillers Lookout.
Being the first Flinders Ranges tourist organisation to achieve the coveted Advanced Ecotourism accreditation, and with now a total of eleven such products available for you to enjoy, Arkaroola is truly unique. Our third successive S.A. Tourism Award win for Ecotourism (November 2007), saw Arkaroola awarded the coveted Hall of Fame, and is undoubtedly South Australia's premier ecotourism destination.
They offer motel accommodation, self contained cottages, bunkhouse, cabins, caravan park and campng grounds - powered and unpowered. The closet dump point is 130kms away.
Even though we are quite remote and distant from the nearest town, you won't miss much in the way of comfort when staying at Arkaroola. We have:
Although there is no mobile phone coverage, we do have normal landline services and WiFi service.
Arkaroola does not encourage visitors to bring dogs here, however if people do so, we ask that they keep them restrained on a leash or tied up at all times. While there is a 2 kilometre exclusion zone from baiting around the village, birds of prey have been known to pick up and drop baits within this zone. If you bring your dog to Arkaroola please keep him or her under control and on a leash at all times (in all areas on the property). If complaints are made by other guests about barking dogs, regretfully we will be forced to ask the dog owners to leave with their pet.
Spent two nights exploring this area. Stayed in the bush creek bed camp with toilet. Can shower and wash clothes with very hot water in caravan area. need to get a booking in quick at the restaurant but most definitely is worth it. Kangaroo steaks were beautifully cooked. There is a basic supply shop with frozen bread and meat. Suggest stocking up in Mildura. The evening astronomy talk with was indepth and exceptional. The ridge too trip has been recommended too A most interesting area to explore!!

Great place to stay. The road is abit rough on the way in. The reception staff knew nothing about the CMCA and the fact that it was a CMCA friendly place. They did reluctantly give us a 10% discount. There are plenty of powered and unpowered sites avaliable. You just choose one after paying. Toilets and showers are what you would expect for a remote location. Water is limited, so make sure you bring plenty of your own. The 10am coffee and info session advertised on the reception door as running every day, doesnt. So check with staff rather than waiting for it as we did. Pool is great, shop has the essentials. You can buy breakfast, lunch or dinner in the restaurant. Overall, a great stay.
