The Location
Please note: you require a permit from the Central Land Council to access this camp site, this can take approx 3 week to obtain so get your application early.
Travellers who traverse through the Hay River Track must pay a transit fee and stay for at least one night here.
The Batton Hill Camp, a bush camp, is shaded by large gum trees and covered picnic tables. Facilities include toilets, hot showers via a donkey boiler, bush kitchen, laundry tub and bore water.
A Central Land Council transit permit is essential, contact Jo Fleming at Direct 4WD. The transit permit to travel through Atnetye Land is $180 and camping at Batton Hill Camp is $20 per person per night. Camping permits are required for Munga-Thirri (Simpson Desert) National Park.
Traversing this track can only be undertaken by 4WD in the moths between March and November. The desert is closed during summer due to the heat.
